Do Something!

Turtles. Imagine something with me. Imagine a glass aquarium containing your two pet turtles named Spike and Lola (or whatever you want to name them). All day long they sit basking in the fake sunlight of the heat lamp that you have provided them with. Your turtles are really boring. You wish they would do something. You sit there watching them do nothing all day. It's positively boring. Why don't you go do something else? You really want to watch your turtles do something.

Then a movie scene pops into your head. You see a little redheaded girl with headgear and braces go up to a tank in a dentist's office and start poking on the glass where the starfish is. Name that movie!

Idea! You decide to poke the glass aquarium to see if you can get your pets to do something. What happens?

I have no idea. Either those turtles get really annoyed and try to ignore your incessant tapping on their home or they start swimming away scared to death of that earthquake they feel are rocking their world. At least maybe you got them to do something.

Ok...so that's not exactly where I was going with that analogy. It kinda just turned into a story.

Do you ever really just want to do something fun with your friends, but your friends just want to float around in their own little world doing nothing that interesting to you?

Did I really just compare my friends to boring turtles? Yes, yes I did.

I have been sitting around all summer long bored out of my mind. I did do a few interesting things, but mostly I sat around all day every day on my computer doing absolutely nothing. Do you realize how boring that gets?

So naturally when I came back to school, I was expecting to do a ton of stuff in the first couple of weeks with my friends. We still have time. It's only been the first week and it's not like that was a full week or anything. We haven't really done anything that fun. Well, I take that back. There was that one night that we did a Walmart run, but it wasn't for ice cream or anything. Even then, to me, it seemed rather different than what usually happens. I think it had a lot to do with the magazine reading while walking through the store. Hello? I'm on a mission. No time for me to be reading magazines. Is this what our Walmart runs have come to? I'm not mad about it. I don't care. I'm just saying. I kinda want to go get lost in Meijers or something again because that would be entertaining. Let's play with foam swords or something.

I cannot say the same thing of my friends. They have been doing stuff all summer it seems. They were either working or on vacation. They had stuff to do.

So naturally, I guess when they get back to school, they would rather chill than get busy. We're in an opposite atmosphere right now.

Take for instance, the first night. After dinner, I was ready to do something with my friends. In fact, I had been that way all day. I wanted to just hang out with them again finally. They just wanted to unpack, so I let them unpack and I procrastinated. Then after dinner, I was in their room, but they were in their own little world, so I went to go unpack even though I really wanted to hang out. After I unpacked, I got trapped in my own little world, so when my friends randomly came in at certain points to talk to me, I really didn't want anything to do with them. I was in my zone.

So Chelsea, are you going to come hang out in our room tonight? You know, last year, I hung out in their room a lot even when we were all doing our own thing, but lately I really haven't felt like doing that. I mean, what's the point? What's the point of sitting in there if we're not all doing something together? We're "hanging out," yet not because we're all doing our own little thing. I just don't see the point. Ok, I do see some point to it, but lately I've just seen that as dumb to do.

Do something! For crying out loud, why can't we do something? I feel like I'm burning a twenty dollar bill sitting in my room doing nothing.

We can't do anything spontaneously if it's planned out because that wouldn't make it spontaneous. Spontaneous has to be random and at the weirdest of moments.

What do you suggest we do Chelsea? What should we do tonight?

I would love to answer that question, but I feel like anything I bring to the table is rotten, moldy, and worthless. I have really never been in charge of coming up with things to do for fun. Even as a kid in elementary school, my friends chose everything we did. I have really no experience coming up with things to do. And I guess as you can see from my slight answer to the question that yes, I do have confidence problems. I just feel like anything I say would be shot down. It has happened before, but not with planning activities to do.

It's the first weekend of school and I'm already complaining. This is just sad. Last year around this time, I didn't really have any friends or at least I didn't have a lot of really close friends, so I was just trying to chill after getting over orientation week.

I almost wish I could have gone through orientation week again as much as I might have said earlier this week that I was thankful for not having to go through it. At least orientation kept me busy and around people. It kept me out of my room and I was hardly homesick. This year, I have been dealing with bouts of being homesick and frankly it sucks.

I really think it's because I haven't been doing enough, but how do I get friends to do stuff when all they want to do is relax because they haven't hardly gotten to relax all summer?

I guess, how do I go about tapping on the glass aquarium without annoying the crap out of my turtle friends?

Do I even bother? The thought crosses my mind: go find other people to hang out with. Fine, maybe I will. But you know, I'm more comfortable watching my turtles bask in their sunlight than going out to find a new hobby.

As a sophomore, I feel like I have friends that are more concrete. Last year was spent developing relationships with people and this year many of those friendships have remained. There's always room though for more friends.

Haha, the image in my head right now is people getting stuck in wet pavement. Nice.

I guess I should probably stop wasting my time waiting for something to happen and do something myself. Make a suggestion. If it gets shot down, then go do it by yourself. Ok, doing it by myself scares the crap out of me especially if it's something really random that I would never ever in a million years dream of doing alone. I don't have to hang out with the same people every day, and even one of my goals this year is to get out and meet other people. Easier said than done I'm finding. By the way, it is so entertaining watching the freshman interact with each other. I wonder how weird I looked as a freshman.

Ah, freshman year. I miss it. I miss the craziness and late night shenanigans. It's just no fun when you have no one to do late night shenanigans with. Trust me, I tried during the summer to have some late night fun and it completely flopped out on me. FAIL!

Hey, can we hang out and actually do something? I know it's the beginning of the school year and this probably sounds incredibly selfish of me (sorry!), but I have been waiting all summer long to get back to school, so I could do really crazy things with my friends. Where has all the craziness gone to?

Let's get out and DO SOMETHING!

Toenail Clippings, Watermelon Seeds, Hockey Pucks, & Magic Tricks

Don't you just love random blogs? I don't know about you, but I tend to get into weird moods where I feel like blogging, but I don't know what to blog about. So basically I asked Shelby to give me a bunch of random topics.

I have a small head?

My hip totally just cracked.

While I'm at it with the random comments, there was a day during the summer where I had a thought in the middle of the night. If I were a guy, would I be hot? I think the conclusion I came to was yes, I would be hot.

Why are skunks called skunks? Why aren't they called stinks or maybe stunks? Where does skunk even come from?

I was thinking about watermelon seeds today while biting my toenails off. Have you ever seen that old Rugrats episode where Chuckie eats the watermelon seed and then the other kids go on an adventure into Chuckie's stomach. I always wondered how they did that. It's all pretend, isn't it?

It's like magic tricks right? There's no such thing as magic. It's all illusions. That reminds me of that one dream I had about garbage and not believing in magic tricks. What an odd dream that was.

Speaking of Chuckie, there is the creepiest doll hanging out in the window of one of the rooms in my dorm. It was totally watching Abby and I today. I kept thinking it was gonna show up in other places. It still could, and you know what? That would scare the crap out of me quite literally especially if I was already in the bathroom. Could you imagine that? What if a doll just showed up in the bathroom stall next to yours with a knife in it's hands? That would be enough to scare an aardvark out of it's shell.

Do aardvarks even have shells? No, probably not.

You know what would be nice? I know that magic doesn't exist, but I think it would be very nice if that Chuckie doll would magically disappear from that window. Though, I wouldn't want to wake up with it in my room staring at me. Creepy!

This one time at band camp, I punched this kid with a hockey puck. Don't ask me why we were playing hockey on the band field. It made no sense to me. Is this ice hockey or marching band practice? I mean come on, there's grass on this field. Though I guess it could be turnips too.

Have you ever eaten a turnip? I have not. They're in the same family as beets and radishes though right? Are carrots in that family too? We might as well say that Starbursts grow in the dirt as well. You never know. Skittles. Taste the rainbow.

It smells like muffins in this room. Do you know the muffin man? The muffin man? Yeah, the one who lives on that one street? What one street? That one that is all sad and everything. Uh, no, I don't know him. I know that black sheep down the street that sells wool at the market.

Did you know that you can't really taste the rainbow? Skittles has lied to us. There's red, orange, yellow, green, and purple. Where in the world is blue? And the package lies to us too...at least I think it does.

What would the blue flavor be anyways? Blueberry? Blue raspberry? Mushroom?

Mushroom?! Where does that even come from. It comes from my toe fungus. Oh don't you mean your toe clippings? No, I meant toe fungus. Actually, no you're right, but I meant to say mold.

Have you ever had moldy pickles? That doesn't sound very appetizing. It sounds quite disgusting actually.

All this talk of food is making me mighty thirsty. I have to urinate. And now I might have to go sit in the elevator. Abby is threatening to kick me out of her room and duct tape me to the inside of the elevator.

It goes up. It goes down. It goes up. Then it comes down. Up. Down. Up. Down.

Actually I'm lying. She said nothing about kicking me out, but she meant everything she said about duct taping me to the ceiling. I don't think that's good for the ceilings. I'd probably break my spleen. That or my spleen would break my fall. Whichever comes first.

If I die tonight, it probably won't be in a ditch. We thought you were dead in a ditch. Yeah, story of my life.

I was born in a ditch. I grew up in a ditch. I live in a ditch on the high way in a van down by the river. What is that even from? And I'll probably die in a ditch too.

Haha, that is totally not the story of my life.

Then there was light that I saw before Abby hit me with a frying pan that she "accidentally" dropped out of her box. I don't think she even has a frying pan. Maybe it's a magical frying pan that just appeared out of nowhere.

Let's be realistic here. There is no such thing as a magical frying pan. Oh yeah, then where did that seven foot tall genie come from. I rubbed the magic lamp. What magic lamp? The one that you just threw away.

Is the magic lamp even a real lamp in the movie Aladdin? It looks nothing like the modern day lamps we see. That explains a lot of why we have no more magic lamps. Hey, you never know. My lamp could be magical.

So I guess Abby decided to blind me with toenail clippings, choke me with watermelon seeds, and to make matters worse, she dropped 10 hockey pucks on my head.

I'm not trying to bash Abby. What did I do to her? Oh yeah, I really, seriously, accidentally hit Abby in the head with a tennis ball. It was one little mistake and she's abusing me in such a way.

Where is Shelby even at? Planning more awful things to do to me. What she doesn't know is that her bag of popcorn tried to eat me. I had to wrestle it out in the lounge. It was epically AWESOME! Unfortunately, everyone thought I was crazy. Maybe it was one misplaced kernel that just jumped out of the bag and scared the living daylights out of me.

But I mean what do you expect when Chuckie is living on the floor right above you? I think you would be scared too.

You know, speaking of Shelby, where have all the epic, spontaneous adventures been these last couple of days? Yeah, we need to get into that again. Is it weird that I kinda sorta really want to go shoe shopping? I should probably clip my toenails though. They're pretty long. It's like a world record. I'm trying to get into the record books. I can't even put on socks properly anymore. I think I may have gotten a hockey puck lodged into one of them. That explains all the blood...I think. Ouch, the thought of that makes me want to throw something at the wall with the intention of vomiting. I think I'll go do that. How should I dislodge this hockey puck?

That's what I get for going fishing on a tennis racket in the middle of shark infested ocean water without a piece of bark to chew on.

So I guess the moral of this story is I do what I want and it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!!!

It's Not Supposed to be Black!

So on Wednesday night, we decided to dye my hair again. This is the third time. Yes, third time's a charm. Third time's a dye. Haha.

Oh wait...third time's a darker dye. Actually, my hair is still black since dying it on Wednesday night. It's not supposed to be. It's supposed to be the most natural darkest brown, but what happened?

I haven't dyed my hair all summer and we dye it
on Wednesday, and it turns black. What in the world?!

I jokingly told my mom this summer that I wanted to dye my hair black. Well, I got my wish. I thought I was kidding though.

Abby and Shelby keep telling me that it will fade out. It usually fades out really fast, but this time might be different. It's black! Have you ever seen Bride Wars. MY HAIR IS BLUE! IT'S BLUE! Haha, awesome part of that movie.

So I guess it could be worse. I could be getting married in a couple of days and have blue hair. That would be a tragedy. My mom would kill the hairstylist for sure for giving me blue hair. With that being said though, don't worry Abby and Shelby (the hairstylists), my mom isn't going to kill you.

I talked to my dad last night. Yeah, he said my mom know
s and apparently I'm grounded for life. I think that was a joke.

Apparently you can see the dark brown coming out, but I haven't seen that yet. Whatever. I trust my friends.

The one thing I do like about it is that it brings out the green in my eyes. Ok, so I also like the fact that it is something really different, but seriously, this was not intentional.

I don't like the fact that I can't wear black without looking really emo and whenever I wash my face, I look like a geisha, which is actually kinda funny.

I sound pretty negative about my hair, don't I? It's not intentional. I'm not like pulling my hair out or something. I don't hate it. Oh geez. I know what they're gonna say when they read it. They being my friends.

Do you really hate your hair? Do you want to dye it back to the original color? Are you really worried about it not fading?

Ugh. No. I like it. It's different. I have faith that eventually it will fade, but for now, I HAVE BLACK HAIR!!!

And now I'm laughing about it. Oh that reminds me of something else.

See this picture? Yeah, I don't know what exactly happened, but somehow dye got in my face. My head was tilted for a little while, but when I lifted it, so Shelby could go to the other side of my head, and there was all this dye. Abby was on washcloth duty. She was kinda slacking. Haha, just kidding Abby!

That face I'm making is no fake laughing matter. I thought it was the funniest thing even though Shelby and Abby were kinda freaking out. You see, they don't let me look at myself in the mirror until it's all done for the big reveal and everything, so I didn't know what the big deal was, and I thought it was pretty funny. So, basically we had to use nail polish remover to get rid of it in the end.

And that's the end of that story. That's totally my story and I'm sticking to it!
